It looks like we have two competing categories for the same thing, so we should try to pick one...
I lean toward "Died", but maybe prefer just "Dead".

I would prefer that all of these synonymous categories be joined into a single one called "Deceased".
Well, AlbertEpstein, I guess I've just muddied the waters.
Deceased is fine. BTW, you can't "join" categories per se. You just have to delete the tags from articles, put the new one on and delete the old category pages.

Yup, I was aware. It's actually far more fatiguing than most anticipate.
I was thinking it'd go smoother if our noble admins would just write a script that did the job. I don't think anyone else can actually delete a category.
If not, that's the manual process I'd expect to have to wrestle with.
Dead or Deceased are equally good to me. The word "Deceased" is considered more delicate terminology to fluent speakers I suppose. Not sure that other languages make such a distinction
Yeah, there is no "script" to move categories. You have to work up a bot, which is kind of a pain. Once you have one running, it isn't so bad.

Definitely no "once and done" solutions. There is something semi-automated that sounds pretty straightforward, but I haven't tried it: CategoryRenameAuto-update at Dev wiki.
Going through with the intent to get the transition started or at least create a baseline,....
It struck me that this might be a case more than with all the other tags where we have a need for a "(Books)" variant and a "(TV)" variant as in
"Category: Deceased (Books)" and "Category: Deceased (TV)"
Yeah, unfortunately you may be right.
Should I set up a poll for this? With choices like:
Once we decide I can work on a bot to make the change.
