Were the new galleries tested with all different image file types, sizes, and aspect ratios?
They don't seem to always handle properly or consistently.
Is there a way to force to the prior gallery implementation?
If the purpose of the Labs is for us to evaluate, we should catalog all the issues we have with them and relay them back to Fandom staff. If any of the issues are serious, we ought to consider reverting to the prior implementation. At the start, we ought to have the list of parameters/settings available.
Who is this addressed at? I think you should at least find out who switched it on before you make a list of complaints. Or, take a poll asking if it is okay to turn it off.
This is addressed to me. I switched the new galleries on, and, because no one said anything, I assumed there were no problems. You seriously should have complained sooner.
But hey, I am ever-the-diplomat, so why not make a poll about it? I'll make a Forum post and highlight it. I expect everyone to vote there.
Trouble is I didn't see all the problems until it was already deployed we had no warning and no place to try it out in advance. We didn't know enough about it to go look up more information. We had no discussion and no central place to log issues or specifics thereof.
I say issues because initially these are not complaints. Only when no options or workarounds are found for the bigger issues would they become complaints. I don't want to complain before I know if anyone else is reporting the issue or if there's a "correct" and "incorrect" way of using it or a "correct" or "incorrect' expectation.
Most issues aren't binary. Most issues and problems have many shades of gray. Most issues aren't pure "YES" or pure "NO". When you cast a ballot in an election, do you examine the issue or do you take everything at face value or based on what your closest friends tell you to vote?
We can't read the minds of all the gallery's developers nor can we read the minds of all contributors. This is not a direct assault or indictment of anyone or anything
I'm considering just disabling them. They don't fit in with the way we generally use images and they don't really fit into the theme for the rest of the wiki.
Aside from that, if we don't have the freedom to choose between this new display mode versus the slideshows they replaced, I'd eliminate any requirement of using galleries for all images
Previously, we had the option of rows of equal width images if we never picked "slideshow". This new mode has also replaced that option as well.
Yup, switch it back.
may have to wait until pages are re-edited or "?action=purge" to clear cache and re-render.
Purge should work. Unfortunately, Fandom introduced a bug, so you pretty much have to do a purge to get galleries in tabbers to show up.
What do you think?
