Amazon Studios is a subsidiary of Amazon that focuses on developing television series, and distributing and producing films and comics from online submissions and crowd-sourced feedback. It was started in late 2010. Content is distributed through Amazon Video, Amazon's digital video streaming service, and is a competitor to services like Netflix and Hulu.
On May 26, 2018, Amazon officially acquired The Expanse for Season Four and beyond.[1]
Differences from Syfy
According to showrunner Naren Shankar, moving to Amazon will have the benefit of less restrictions on things like nudity, language, and length to some extent.[2] The show will benefit from potentially a bit longer playing time if needed and a more seamless experience due to lack of breaks.[2]
