On Jules-Pierre Mao's ship, his guards have been ordered to get rid of Avasarala, and they end up in a shootout with Cotyar and Draper. Cotyar gets shot in the midst of the gunfire.
Meanwhile, Naomi and Amos return to the Rocinante and reunite with Holden, who apologizes for his maniacal fervor in trying to kill the human-protomolecule hybrid on Ganymede. As Prax tends to Amos' wounds, he is haunted by the fact that the hybrid they have been hunting was once an innocent child.
As the Roci crew discusses plans to repair their damaged ship, they spot the hybrid in the cargo bay on the monitors. Naomi declares that killing it is now imperative. Ignoring Prax's pleas to let him communicate with the creature, Holden and Amos go after the hybrid. After it removes an incendiary failsafe control implant from its chest and throws it out of the ship, it throws a magnetic crate at the men and it pins Holden to the wall. Amos is forced to retreat since his face shield is cracked and leaking life support while the bullets are only effective at slowing the creature. Strangely, the hybrid ignores the trapped Holden and starts digging into the ship's bulkhead. Naomi realizes that it is after the ship's reactor core, since the protomolecule feeds on intense radiation.
On Mao's ship, Avasarala, Cotyar, and Draper are still trapped, though they have reached a stalemate. Bobbie is able to access the maps of the ship to find a route to their skiff from the lounge they're trapped in. They spot the maintenance crawlspace leading out but, Chrisjen and Cotyar won't be able to make it. Cotyar tells Draper to take the escape route, continue through the elevator shaft, retrieve her battle armor, and come back to save them.
As the hybrid continues to dig, the Roci crew needs to figure out a plan before Holden's injuries become fatal. Amos speaks up with a plan to depressurize the cargo bay and shoot the hybrid out into the vacuum of space. However, the initiative threatens to end Holden's life. He is still trapped in that same cargo bay.
On the Arboghast, hovering over Venus, Dr. Iturbi affirms that there is no doubt that the Eros crater is active, and he convinces Janus to descend to get a better reading.
On the Roci, Naomi spots Amos alone and apologizes for getting rough with him on the Somnambulist. He declares that he is angry at himself for forcing her into subduing him. Naomi intuits that Amos was lying when he said Holden could survive the depressurization plan. She tells him he is not allowed to blow the doors on the hatch until she finds another way.
With the hybrid still digging, Alex turns off the ship's reactor. Once the hybrid cannot sense the radiation any longer, it turns its attentions to Holden and begins advancing on him. Consequently, Alex powers up again, and the creature resumes the digging.
While Cotyar tries to negotiate with Mao's men, Draper moves through the elevator shaft. Despite a close call, she makes it out.
Holden's vital signs are fading, and Naomi has not been able to figure out an alternative to Amos' plan. Unresigned, Naomi refuses to let Jim say goodbye but, he presses on. He tells her that if he dies, she should let him go and find a place to hide out.
Cotyar is passed out from his wound, until Avasarala presses on it to wake him up. They are still trapped, but Mao's men offer Cotyar a deal: give up Avasarala and he can walk. To Avasarala's shock, he is considering it. Avasarala tells Cotyar that if he is going to turn on her, he must take up her cause and stop Errinwright.
Meanwhile, on the Roci, Prax formulates a plan: the hybrid is moving towards the energy source like a plant does to sunlight. If they could offer it a new energy source, they could lure it outside the ship with a nuclear warhead and then annihilate it.
On Mao's yacht, the only thing standing between Draper and her hardware is an electrician. He threatens to push a button and initiate a lockdown, but she calls his bluff. They strike up the same bargain being offered to Cotyar. The electrician lets Draper pass, though he asks that she rough him up not to ignite suspicions.
As Prax and Naomi walk the outside of the Roci preparing to jettison a nuclear warhead's core, Holden makes Amos promise to blow the hatch in case the plan does not work. Fumbling with the words, Amos then declares that Holden had always been striving towards remaining righteous, for which Amos thanks him.
Alex shuts off the power source again; however, this time, as the hybrid moves towards Holden, Prax and Naomi expose the core of the warhead. The hybrid senses it and follows it outside the ship. It looks for a second like Prax will lose his nerve but, ultimately, he does not. He tosses the warhead, he and Naomi rush back aboard, and Alex is able to completely destroy the hybrid along with the nuke using the Rocis drive plume.
Just as Mao's men are about to shoot Avasarala, Draper, armed with her battle suit, arrives to take them out, saving both her and Cotyar.
The Arboghast descends to the surface of Venus and the Eros crater when suddenly, the sensors seem to malfunction. The crater appears to be moving. The Martian ship completely disappears. Soon thereafter, the Arboghast is surrounded by the protomolecule and disaggregated into its component parts. Iturbi, Janus, and all of the vessel's personnel die in the process.
Safe on the Roci, Naomi tends to Holden. She tells him they cannot have any more secrets between them, thus she tells him the truth about the piece of protomolecule she lied to have shot into Sol. She tells Holden that there is no going back: the protomolecule is a weapon they will all have to deal with. The United Nations has it, so does the MCR. She affirms that she needed to make sure the Belt had it, too. As a result, she gave the protomolecule sample to Fred Johnson.
Meanwhile, on Io, Dr. Strickland is sealing up Mei — very much alive and not infused with the protomolecule — in a pod and telling her, ironically wishing her sweet dreams.
Cotyar : Well, it looks like you guys have some shit you need to figure out. Just make a hole. We'll get on the elevator and go back to our ship.
Cotyar : Then we've got a problem.
Cotyar : Well, that's disappointing.
Naomi : Oh, I'll take you to the med bay.
Amos : I can get there on my own. Doc'll take care of me.
Holden : I don't deserve credit for that.
Holden : If Alex hadn't talked me off the ledge, we would've been too late.
Naomi : Did you kill that thing from the lab?
Holden : No, .. and it doesn't matter. I almost traded your lives to do it.
Naomi : This does not sound like the man I walked away from on Ganymede.
Holden : …and I understand why you did. It won't happen again.
Naomi : Jim,… it's nice to have you back.
Amos : That doesn't sting at all. Are you sure that's the antiseptic?
Prax : No. I told you, my degree is in botany.
Amos : But you're a doctor. How's it look?
Prax : If you were a fern, I'd say you have a fatal lack of chlorophyll.
Amos : I'm sorry about your little girl.
Prax : We still don't know what happened to her. Not for sure.
Amos : You're right. That thing that broke out of that lab,… do you think that used to be a kid?
Alex : Hey, all. I took it upon myself
to radio ahead to the aid convoy that the Somnambulist is heading for, and it looks like they're gonna be doing a little, uh, braking maneuver so that the two of them will link up a bit sooner. So, the Somnambulist is gonna get there with air to spare.
Naomi : You're one hell of a pilot.
Holden : They're engaging over Ganymede again.
Alex : I'm not gonna lie. Lower decks took a lot of shrapnel from that torpedo and, there's multiple punctures astern but, she's a tough girl. A little T.L.C. and she'll be right as rain. You up for a little patch work?
Alex : All right. Let's do it.
Alex : Oh, it's been vented. All right, let's take a look-see.
Alex : All right, let's take a look-see.
Alex : Damn, the pressure door is completely inoperative.
Alex : That is a hell of a lot of shrapnel damage.
Naomi : What the fuck is that?
Alex : Shit. Holden! It's in the cargo bay!
Alex : That's the thing we were chasing. Son of a bitch, it must've hitched a ride when we had it cornered in the ag dome. How the hell did it ever hang on?
Naomi : Doesn't matter. This time we don't have a choice.
Naomi : This time we don't have a choice.
Naomi : We have to kill it.
Prax : We don't have to go into this blind.
Prax : The data core's starting to decrypt.
Prax : Let's just take some time. Try to figure out what we're actually dealing with here.
Prax : It's not doing anything dangerous.
Holden : …and we're not going to give it a chance to.
Holden : Thing is a living weapon. It's a killing machine.
Prax : It's not a machine
Prax : It clearly was once.
Prax : I'm gonna go down there. I'm gonna talk to it.
Holden : We're going to shoot it,
Holden : and we're gonna keep on shooting it…
Holden : …and, if that doesn't kill it, we're gonna force it out the way it came in.
Holden : All we have to do is make sure it gets onto the hull so Alex can roll the ship and dump it into the drive plume.
Alex : Prax, we gotta burn that thing down to its fucking atoms.
Naomi : Is there a plan 'B'?
Holden : Yeah. Make sure plan 'A' works.
Holden : Upper deck looks clear.
Amos : Where the hell is that thing? I don't see it.
Naomi : We just lost sight of it behind the container near a bulkhead on the lower deck, aft.
Naomi : There's no good camera on that position.
Naomi : Keep moving to your left. It has to be down there. We would have seen it if it moved.
Holden : Amos, right flank. I'll go left. Set up a cross fire and force it out the hole in the door.
Amos : What the hell is that thing doing?
Alex : It looks like it's scratching itself.
Prax : It has some kind of tech implanted in its chest.
Naomi : What the fuck was that?
Naomi : Holden! Amos! What the hell is going on?
Amos : That thing pinned him to a wall with a cargo container.
Amos : I can't disengage the mag-lock.
Naomi : Amos, open that panel. We have to override the lock.
Holden : Amos, you're losing air. You need to get out of here now!
Holden : Get out of here! You're no good to anyone dead.
Naomi : Maybe it no longer considers you a threat.
Prax : It's not some dumb animal.
Prax : The device it tore out of its chest was a fail safe regulator, some kind of command and control module.
Alex : Control module, my ass.
Alex : That was an incendiary device, you understand?
Alex : A bomb probably designed to destroy that thing in case it got out of control. All right?
Alex : …and I wish we had known about that thing inside it before it ripped it out of its chest!
Prax : It was smart enough to get rid of it. Clearly, it's intelligent.
Alex : Oh, is that why you didn't…
Naomi : We can speculate about its intelligence after we get it out of this ship.
Amos : We were hurting that thing for sure.
Holden : Hey, guys! Are you seeing this?
Naomi : It's digging into the bulkhead. Why?
Naomi : Shit. The protomolecule feeds on radiation.
Naomi : That thing's trying to get to the reactor.
Holden : If it punctures the chamber…
Amos : We're more or less fucked.
Avasarala : Our escort ship isn't responding.
Cotyar : Errinwright must've covered that, too.
Cotyar : He delivered you to the enemy like a Christmas present.
Avasarala : That motherfucker! I trained him. You warned me.
Bobbie : Show me all utility access points.
Avasarala : Your wound. It doesn't look good.
Cotyar : Thanks for the pep talk.
Cotyar : It's better than it could be.
Malick : Keep the comm array dark, no messages out.
Malick : I want guards on every deck.
Bobbie : There's a maintenance crawl on the other side of that wall.
Bobbie : It should lead us to the elevator shaft.
Bobbie : Right. You'd never make that climb.
Avasarala : Jesus Christ! Not because I'm old. He's been shot.
Cotyar : Plus, she's really old.
Cotyar : We've got a defensible position here.
Cotyar : I'll hold it as long as I can.
Bobbie : I'm not leaving you two.
Cotyar : Your power armor is in the skiff.
Bobbie : Why would you bring it?
Cotyar : Get it and come save our asses.
Malick : You there? I want to negotiate!
Alex : How 'bout we strap in tight and I put the Roci into a hard spin?
Alex : I bet you I can bounce that thing out one of the holes.
Naomi : Out of the question.
Naomi : A maneuver like that would snap him in two.
Holden : That thing is strong as hell.
Holden : I doubt it's gonna just trip out and fall into space.
Amos : We better do something quick 'cause captain's leg is crushed.
Holden : Well, I don't need to run a marathon.
Amos : No, but, you crush enough muscle and it starts leaking potassium into your blood.
Amos : Your suit can only filter out so much of that then, your heart stops.
Prax : You know a lot about how people die.
Amos : Yeah, I guess I do.
Prax : Whatever that thing is now, it used to be human.
Prax : It's a living organism which means it has to have some constraints.
Prax : What if we electrify the deck, try to stun it?
Alex : Okay, look. This thing rips through steel like tin foil.
Alex : It doesn't need air. It shrugs off bullets.
Alex : You think a little electrical shock is going to stop it?
Naomi : Holden's standing on that same deck.
Prax : I'm trying to come up with an alternative.
Alex : That's the problem!
Amos : When I was apprenticing, I did a tour on a prospector ship outside of Pallas station.
Amos : We had a ton of shitty equipment.
Amos : One time, we were on a run and this guy's O₂ regulator valve got stuck open.
Amos : The pressure in his suit went way up and he started losing air out his relief valve.
Amos : He got scared that he was going to run out of air before we made it back to the ship so we welded the valve shut.
Naomi : …but, that would eventually take…
Amos : Yes, it burst his suit like a balloon and it popped him out like a missile.
Alex : Well, that's a happy story but, what's your point?
Amos : Okay, the Roci's built for what? Twenty, 30 people?
Amos : Well, since it's just us, we have air to spare.
Amos : So we seal off engineering, the reactor deck, and the machine shop,… we over-pressurize them all, we pop the hatch to the cargo bay, it'll blow the big door right off, along with that thing.
Naomi : Holden's pinned down. That kind of pressure change will rip him apart.
Naomi : I'm going to find another way.
Holden : Well, keep on looking while you prepare to blow that goddamn thing off my ship.
Iturbi : Right in the middle of the crater.
Iturbi : The radiation signature of those pulses is the same as what was recorded on Eros.
Iturbi : The Ridge structures have grown an average of nine millimeters since our first scans.
Iturbi : The atmospheric acid levels above the impact site are rising while the temperature is falling.
Iturbi : There's no doubt about it, that crater is active.
Janus : …and we're fresh out of probes.
Janus : This is where you say we have to descend so we can get close for our sensors to get meaningful readings.
Iturbi : …and, then, you point out that we'd be at the edge of what our ship is rated for, and that our Martian shadow's probably going to shoot at us.
Janus : Rig for atmospheric flight. Take us down.
Pilot : Aye, aye, sir.
All hands, make ready for atmospheric descent.
Naomi : I reinforced all the seals to the machine shop.
Naomi : Soon as we're done here, we're onto the next deck.
Naomi : Amos. About what I did to you on Ganymede. I'm sorry.
Amos : You said that you needed to do something and I didn't listen.
Amos : I made you put me down.
Amos : That couldn't have been easy for you.
Amos : It's just that I've been…
Amos : I've been trying to make choices on my own lately and, I can't seem to make the right ones.
Naomi : No one's always right.
Naomi : I'm sorry I hurt you.
Naomi : When you said Holden could survive this, you were lying.
Naomi : Do not blow the hatch until I tell you to.
Alex : Guys, pick up the pace.
Alex : At this rate, that thing's gonna get to the reactor before we can seal everything off.
Amos : Hey, doc, grab a torch and come down here and help me.
Prax : I don't know how to use one.
Amos : Well, get your ass down here and I'll show you how.
Alex : That aint gonna cut it. We gotta slow this thing down.
Alex : Guys, I'm gonna shut down the drive.
Alex : Maybe that's gonna buy us some time.
Alex : Stand by for zero-g.
Alex : It's working. It stopped digging.
Alex : It's heading back for Holden.
Holden : If I can get my gun,… we hurt it the first time.
Holden : It'll buy us some more time.
Alex : Hell, no. Enough of that.
Alex : Sorry, hoss. Powering up!
Cotyar : We're reasonable people in here.
Cotyar : We know this wasn't your plan.
Avasarala : And you're in as much trouble as us.
Cotyar : You're in as much trouble as we are.
Malick : Not sure I see it that way, friend.
Malick : This doesn't have to go hard.
Malick : There's more than one way we can do this.
Cotyar : I'll try to bleed slower.
Avasarala : Ask him what the alternatives are.
Cotyar : I would love to hear what alternatives you've got.
Malick : No one has to get hurt.
Malick : What we need to do now is settle down until I can talk to Mr. Mao.
Cotyar : So you're not going to kill anyone?
Avasarala : They can't let me walk out of this.
Avasarala : We are only alive until Mao is sure we aren't useful to his grand scheme.
Guard 1 : Do we even know how many?
Guard 2 : Anyone we don't know, shoot on sight.
Guard 1 : Got it.
Mission Specialist : Cross wind's over 300 kph, watch the shear!
Iturbi : Is this your first time diving through hot clouds of sulfuric acid?
Janus : Well, there was that one time at college.
Pilot : The Martian ship... It's on an intercept course!
Janus : Have they target-locked us?
Pilot : Can't tell, sir. There's too much interference.
Janus : What the hell was that?
Pilot : The Martian ship, sir.
Iturbi : God damn it! They're going to beat us to it.
Guard : Oops.
354 : Argh!
Naomi : Jim, are there any mining charges on this ship?
Holden : Hmm, I don't think so.
Holden : What would we do with them?
Naomi : Blow the damn cargo doors open so that Alex can spin that thing out of the ship.
Holden : If you're trying to protect me, I don't think an explosion that size is going to do what you want.
Naomi : There has to be something. I just can't see it yet.
Holden : Just stop for a second.
Holden : I need to talk to you. Please.
Naomi : We'll talk after.
Holden : I've been on the other side of this conversation.
Holden : …and, if the next few minutes is all we get, we should take it.
Holden : if this is my time, don't be an idiot like I was.
Holden : Don't go looking for revenge.
Holden : If I die here, let me go.
Holden : Take the ship and the guys and find some place safe
to ride all this out.
Naomi : Are you saying you regret it?
Naomi : Everything we've done since the Canterbury?
Holden : only because I don't get to spend more time with you.
Naomi : Revenge is the last thing I'm thinking about now.
Naomi : So unless you can see how to get you out safe, and get that thing off our ship, don't talk to me.
Naomi : Not until I fix this.
Malick : If you won't take my word on your safety, what will you take?
Malick : Are you thinking about it?
Cotyar : She needs comm access.
Malick : I can't do that but, look…
Malick : I understand why you don't trust me.
Malick : Leave the undersecretary and you can go.
Malick : We have Mao's little racing ship in our other shuttle dock.
Malick : Hand over Avasarala for us to keep safe.
Malick : You and the Martian can take it and go.
Avasarala : Tell him you need assurance of my safety.
Cotyar : I take the Martian and you let us walk out.
Malick : Look, we both know how this goes.
Malick : Important, powerful people start fighting each other.
Malick : It's people like us that die.
Malick : I've got nothing against you.
Malick : You've got nothing against me.
Malick : I need to keep control of the undersecretary. Not you.
Cotyar : We exchange hostages.
Cotyar : One of yours for Avasarala.
Cotyar : So I know you won't shoot
us down after we launch.
Malick : This is a pleasure yacht, not a gunship.
Malick : …but, I'll escort you to the hangar myself.
Panicked Tech : Stop! Stop! Don't come any closer!
Panicked Tech : If I take my thumb off this button,
Panicked Tech : it'll put the airlock in full lockdown.
Panicked Tech : You'll never get out of here.
Panicked Tech : If you kill me, you're trapped.
Alex : What the hell? You're supposed to be down there helping Amos.
Prax : We're doing this wrong.
Prax : It's a nutrient gradient.
Alex : It's a nutri... what?
Prax : Naomi said that the creature gets energy from radiation, right?
Alex : It sucks radiation the way a tick sucks blood.
Alex : First time we found the protomolecule, it was wrapped around a reactor core, so what?
Prax : It's following a nutrient gradient.
Prax : Like leaves growing toward light or roots toward water.
Alex : Prax, we are running out of time here.
Alex : How does all this plant shit help us?
Prax : We can change the gradient.
Prax : If we give it a better food source that's easier to reach, we won't have to force it out.
Prax : This ship has torpedoes armed with nuclear warheads, doesn't it?
Panicked Tech : I'm warning you.
Do not come any closer.
Panicked Tech : I swear I'll lock it down for good.
Bobbie : What makes you think I need to get in the drop ship?
Panicked Tech : There's nothing else down here.
Panicked Tech : Unless I've dramatically misjudged this situation.
Panicked Tech : Oh, thank god.
Bobbie : …;but, you haven't locked me out yet.
Panicked Tech : Yeah.
Bobbie : …because, as soon as you do,...
Panicked Tech : There's nothing to keep you from beating me to death.
Bobbie : You're right about that, too.
Panicked Tech : So, where do we go from here?
Bobbie : Ask yourself. Is he worth it?
Panicked Tech : Who?
Bobbie : The man you serve here.
Bobbie : Does he deserve your sacrifice?
Panicked Tech : I'm an electrician.
Bobbie : You're about to lay down your life for an unworthy master.
Bobbie : That's not an honorable death, no matter what they tell you.
Panicked Tech : So, if I let you in, you'll let me go?
Panicked Tech : Um, do you think that you could throw me in one of those cargo lockers?
Panicked Tech : Maybe rough me up a little?
Panicked Tech : Just so they don't think, you know.
Prax : You just happened to have a nuclear warhead lying around?
Naomi : We took it out of a torpedo a while back.
Naomi : A good belter never throws anything away.
Naomi : So, we'll carry it out onto the hull until we get close to the cargo bay and, then, I'll pull the shielding and you'll throw it out away from the ship.
Naomi : …and, hopefully, if you're right, that creature will go after it.
Prax : I thought patching up a bullet wound was gonna be the strangest thing I did today.
Prax : I keep thinking I'll tell Mei about this when I get home.
Prax : Normally, my stories are about soybeans.
Prax : She pretends to care.
Amos : I'm right here, cap.
Holden : If this plan doesn't work...
Amos : I'll blow the hatch.
Amos : There's no way this ends with that thing inside this ship.
Amos : In case I have to kill you, I just wanted to say thanks.
Amos : You made some pretty stupid choices since you've been in charge but, you were always trying to do the right thing, so...
Amos : That came out bad.
Amos : I mean, you were always trying to be a good man.
Amos : Not everybody does. Thank you.
Amos : It was nice not having to worry about being on the right team.
Naomi : Alex, we're ready to go out.
Alex : Standing by to shut down the drive on your mark.
Malick : I'm going to need an answer, friend.
Avasarala : If you're going to do it, take over.
Avasarala : If you're going to sell me out, I understand.
Avasarala : It's the rational choice… …but, you have to stop Errinwright before he can use the protomolecule to wage the war he's always wanted.
Cotyar : I don't owe you anything.
Cotyar : I owe him. Not you. I'm paying him back by keeping his mother safe.
Cotyar : What the hell are you doing?
Avasarala : If I have any value as a prisoner, I may use it to save your life.
Cotyar : Gambling they haven't decided to take you out?
Cotyar : That's a bad bet. I won't let you make it.
Malick : Yes, sir, I understand.
Malick : I'll take care of it.
Malick : It's nothing personal.
Cotyar : I guess Mao made up his mind.
Naomi : Keep your eyes down.
Prax : This isn't my first time in a space suit.
Naomi : It's your first time in space, with no ground, no sky, and no horizon.
Naomi : All right. Let's extract the core.
Holden : Guys... it's working!
Naomi : Copy that. Prax, when I disengage the interlock, the chamber will try to foul shut, so I have to hold it open manually.
Naomi : When I give the word, you pull the core.
Naomi : Now. Pull it now!
Amos : It's out the door. It's headed your way!
Amos : Okay, here it comes! Get ready!
Naomi : We see it! Steady, Prax.
Naomi : Just let it get a little closer.
Naomi : Prax! What are you waiting for?
Amos : Come on, doc! Do it!
Naomi : Prax, it's not Mei.
Naomi : Alex, we're in. Do it!
Alex : Firing up the barbecue!
Female : [shipwide address]Prepping all units.
Mission Specialist : We just picked up a massive EM uptick.
Mission Specialist : I think the crater is moving.
Pilot : Sir, the Martian ship is gone!
Janus : What do you mean, "gone"?
Pilot : It just vanished off our scopes.
Janus : What just happened?
Iturbi : I think we've stopped.
Janus : That's impossible.
Holden : You're sure it's gone?
Alex : Damn straight. Stripped it right down to its nuclei.
Alex : Sorry, hoss. That's gotta hurt.
Holden : You guys really saved my ass.
Alex : Actually,… it was his idea.
Alex : This is one steely-eyed man of science, our plant guy.
Prax : I'm glad you're okay.
Naomi : Boys. Can we have the room for a minute?
Amos : Glad I didn't have to kill you, brother.
Holden : I spend a lot more time in this room than I'd like.
Naomi : I have something I need to say to you.
Naomi : …and I'm not sure how I'm going to do it.
Naomi : We said no more secrets, but I've still got one.
Holden : Well, whatever it is, we'll be all right.
Naomi : The protomolecule has changed everything… except everything it didn't.
Naomi : I don't ever remember a time when Earth, Mars and the belt weren't fighting.
Naomi : The sides change sometimes. What we think we're fighting for. Who we tell ourselves are the good people.
Naomi : …but, it just seems we can't ever stop fighting war after war after war.
Naomi : It's part of being human. An ugly part but, I don't think it will ever change.
Naomi : Technology certainly hasn't changed it.
Naomi : Guns. Railguns. Nuclear bombs. No weapon ever brings peace.
Naomi : No one knows what the protomolecule wants or what it's doing but, they are using it anyway.
Naomi : It's already scattered too far to ever be sure it'll all be gone.
Naomi : It's part of the equation now and it will be from now on. We can't change that. We can't wish it away.
Naomi : Earth has it, Mars has it,…and the belt needs it, too.
Naomi : I didn't destroy our sample. I never sent our torpedo into the sun. I couldn't do it.
Naomi : There was a moment on the Somnambulist when I thought I wasn't going to make it. I was sure we were all going to die there and that our sample would be lost. …and I couldn't
let that happen.
Holden : Naomi, what did you do?
Naomi : I gave the protomolecule to Fred Johnson.
