"Cibola Burn" is the tenth and final episode of the fourth season of The Expanse. Overall, it is the forty-sixth episode. It aired on December 13, 2019.
Synopsis
Ashford closes in on an enemy while uncovering a dangerous plot. Avasarala faces a crossroads in her personal and political life. The Roci crew works to reestablish life on Ilus in the wake of a deadly catastrophe.
Recap
Dr Okoye falls through the energy ring and Miller's self-sacrifice, the network is neutralized, ending the fusion shutdown, enabling the Rocinante is able to fire up its reactor and all ships climb to a safe orbit.
Ashford hunts the Belter terrorist Inaros and interrogates a Martian Naval Supplies Officer. He learns of a larger conspiracy.
Holden climbs to the top of the alien structure, which is "approimately 800 kilometres from First Landing" and contacts the Rocinante.
Murtry and Amos are brought onto the Rocinante and recover. Murtry and Lucia are to stand trial, but Holden sets Lucia free, reporting that she died in space as if Naomi had not rescued her. The Belters and the RCE science team decide to stay on Ilus, planning to together rebuild the settlement and continue research. While the Israel remains in orbit, the Rocinante and the Barbapiccola head back to the Solar System.
On Mars, just before the gang's job, Bobbie works out the job is a trap but fails to prevent an ambush in which Esai and most other members are killed.
The Rocinante crew remove the small piece of protomolecule still on their ship and fire it into Ilus' sun. Amos, his eyes afire, extracts his revenge on Murtry, whilst keeping him alive.
Gao wins the election, opening the flood gates through the Rings. Avasarala pays a heavy price in her personal and political life. Bobbie tells Avasarala of Martians trafficking military weapons with Belters and accepts her job offer.
Ashford finds Inaros and boards his ship. Ashford is ambushed by Filip. Ashford secretly records his conversation with Inaros, managing to send it out as a message before Inaros murders him. Inaros launches asteroids cloaked with Martian stealth technology saying, "They'll never see it coming." In Inaros' tactical display, eight trajectories are seen intersecting the Earth's orbit in sequence.
