The Earth-Mars Coalition Navy (EMCN), is the joint naval task force of Earth (the United Nations Navy) and Mars (the Martian Congressional Republic Navy).
History
The Coalition Navy policed the Sol system together for almost a century. According to Dimitri Havelock, the EMCN had about a hundred gunships at its disposal at the time that Eros incident took place.[1]
Eros Incident
Earth and Mars have been in a state of war, sometimes hot, sometimes cold; as such, EMCN forces are now divided into the UN Navy and the MCRN. The exception to this division is any action involving the Belt or Outer Planets - the Inner Planets cannot afford to look weak to the Outer Planets Alliance.[2]
Ganymede Incident
In the eighteen months following the events of the Eros incident the EMCN had effectively disbanded, with its two members entering into the UN-MCR War.[3]
Some time after the Free Navy Conflict, the UN and the MCR governments re-established the Earth-Mars Coalition.
Laconia-Sol Conflict
When the Heart of the Tempest moved towards the inner planets the 2nd Fleet engaged the battleship. After taking heavy losses the surviving ships made high-g burns to escape the battle area. Vital data was gained of the Laconian ships weapons and defenses during this engagement that would be studied and put to use in the next battle.
The main EMCN fleet consisting of every ship that could be armed awaited the Heart of the Tempest at Point Leuctra. The entire fleet engaged the Laconian battleship along with their Transport Union allies. After heavy losses the Governor Knight fired high-yield nuclear missiles against the enemy ship. After detonation it was assumed the Tempest would have been destroyed, yet the battleship survived and was still firing missiles. Multiple surviving ships burned at suicide runs in attempts to ram the Tempest. All the admirals in the fleet were killed and the surviving ships surrendered effectively ending the Earth-Mars Coalition as the Laconian Empire took over control of the Sol system.[4]
Under Laconian rule
Under Laconian rule the Earth-Mars coalition navy was still kept in use as a policing force in the Sol system. Despite the technological superiority of the Laconian Imperial Navy it lacked the ship numbers so the EMC found a purpose.
The EMCN was by this time firmly under control of the Laconian Empire and its fleets commanded by Laconian flag officers whom reported directly to Admiral Trejo onboard the Heart of the Tempest[5].Fleets
