67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, shortened 67P or 67P/C-G, also known as Rosetta's comet, is a Jupiter-family comet originally from the Kuiper belt.

It is orbiting the Sun within a period of 6.44 years in a distance between 1.24 and 5.68 AU, getting as close as between Earth's and Mars' orbit at its perihelion while its aphelion lies somewhat outside the orbit of Jupiter.

Discovery[]

Churyumov–Gerasimenko was discovered on September 29th 1969 by Soviet astronomers Klim Ivanovych Churyumov and Svetlana Ivanovna Gerasimenko, after whom it was named.[1]

Rosetta mission[]

Comet 67P is well known from the Rosetta mission from the European Space Agency in the 21st century. In 2014, the space probe Rosetta reached Comet 67P after 10 years of traveling and sent its lander Philae to the surface of the rock.[2]

By the time Detective Josephus Miller is investigating the case of Julie Mao, the comet is on its way to the inner system. It can be seen on the holographic map Miller is opening in Julie's flat on Ceres in episode 3 of season 1.[3]
