Filip Nagata, formerly Filip Inaros, is the teenage son of Marco Inaros and Naomi Nagata.

Biography[]

Background[]

As a baby, Filip was abandoned by Naomi, and was later kept hidden from her by Marco with aid from Cyn.

Personality[]

He continually seeks approval and recognition from Marco, and harbors much resentment and indifference towards Naomi for her abandoning him, which had most certainly been exacerbated by Marco. Filip is capable of murder as seen on multiple occasions, especially Inners, and has even attempted to kill Naomi in some instances. This behavior may be rooted in his upbringing by his father, the harsh reality of Belter life, or is simply motivated in seeking his father’s approval.

Despite this, Filip is far from bloodthirsty and grows weary of killing senselessly, and his enmity towards Naomi never reached a point where he wanted to kill her outside of reluctant compliance to Marco. He becomes increasingly disillusioned with his father's actions as the Free Navy conflict escalates, realizing that Naomi was correct about Marco's character, and eventually abandons him out of disgust for his indifference towards Rosenfeld's death.

Throughout the series[]

⑤-"Triple Point" · Target practice/Scene 12[]

Naomi explains to Holden that the reason she gave Fred Johnson the protomolecule sample was that she knew some day she would want to have Fred use his resources to locate her son with Marco Inaros, Filip.[1]

⑩-"Cibola Burn" · Bobbie follows a hunch[]

Filip is seen being the person who gets the Martian stealth tech out of Mars and planted the bomb in the dome. Bobbie shoots at him but he escapes, right before the dome collapses.

⑩-"Cibola Burn" · Tili go[]

After Ashford breaches Inaros' ship and has Marco at gunpoint, Filip arrives. He witnesses Marco putting Ashford out an airlock. Filip is once again by Marco's side when his father launches asteroids. Asking his father about concerns over Earth's watchtower satellites, he is told that their best technology cannot perfectly penetrate Martian stealth.[2]

⑩-"Cibola Burn" · Promises to keep[]

Naomi sends a message to Fred, asking him to find Filip for her.[3]

①-"Exodus" · Bonafide space oddity[]

Filip leads an assault on Hasami, the civilian scientific vessel investigating the "space oddity" of rogue asteroids which would reveal Inaros' attack plan. After demanding the comms logs, he has the Hasami crew put to death. He stops Cyn from helping Andrew who gets caught to the antenna array of the science vessel.[4]

③-"Mother" · Family reunion[]

Filip meets his mother, Naomi on Pallas. She tells him that it was hard to leave. She wants to avoid having him die because of his father and offers the Chetzemoka[5]

③-"Mother" · Secured for flight[]

Naomi is shocked and thrilled when Filip appears aboard the Chetzemoka before she realizes that he intends to take it back to his father, Marco Inaros. Another surprise is in store when Filip orders that she be taken with them and she is tazed into unconsciousness.[6]

④-"Gaugamela" · Naomi steps foot on the Pella[]

[7]

⑩-"Nemesis Games" · There is still more to do[]

Filip notices the frustration in his father and asks what has happened. He is informed that their trap failed, his mother and her friends survived, and they lost two gunships. Marco is surprised when Filip's only remarks are that it didn't work and they have things to do. [8]

⑩-"Nemesis Games" · A knife in the darkness[]

Marco exposits to Filip that Belter history will change because of what he is about to have done, destroy the Inners' battleships guarding the Ring allowing the Free Navy to take control of the Ring Space effectively controlling all human space travel.[9]
