“Battle for humanity” —
The gun battle on Winnipesaukee Island was a ground fight between Erich's gang alongside Amos and Clarissa against a local branch of Pinkwater Security which was acting as it own gang in the aftermath of the Bombardment of Earth.
Events[]
Upon traveling to Winnipesaukee island in search of a lunar capable shuttle Erich's gang, Amos, and Clarissa took up residence at a manor with a non-functional shuttle in its hangar. The shuttle was repairable but they had difficulty finding the fault. Whilst here several staff were found as well as other staff from other manors nearby whom were offered a space on the shuttle once they left.
Unexpectedly, a detachment of Pinkwater Security appeared at the manor, armed and demanding all the food and supplies to place at a centralized location. Erich and Amos immediately recognize this as a hustle and when the Pinkwater men aim their weapons, several of Erich's men appear from the manor armed and aiming at them. Clarissa prevents immediate bloodshed, but Amos points out to her that they would return in force.
They then attempt to fix the shuttle before Pinkwater returned. Amos, after taking a break, figures out the fault and successfully repairs it. Erich then contacts everyone in their group, including the civilians, informing them to get there within 15 minutes or be left behind.
Clarissa gets the civilians down the tunnel, and the team notices activity in the trees. Theo obseerving from a balcony is shot in the head by a sniper. Numerous Pinkwater men begin firing from the tree line as everyone takes cover and return fire. Two more of Erich's gang are killed and the remaining members withdraw toward the tunnel entrance where another is hit and killed. At the tunnel entrance the team takes fire from two different directions. Amos is hit by shrapnel and stunned briefly before being moved into cover by Hutch. He is okay after a moment and closes the tunnel doorway along with another man. The other man at the door was then killed by rounds going through the door and they flee down the tunnel as fast as they can run. Pinkwater had gotten through those doors relatively quickly and were already firing at them.
Meanwhile inside the hangar bay, having gotten all the civilians into the shuttle, Clarissa hears glass breaking from a side entrance and as well as voices. A unit of Pinkwater had managed to flank behind them, and being alone and unarmed she activates her implant allowing her to kill all seven intruders barehanded before collapsing.
At this point the gang reaches the hangar bay and Erich helps get Clarissa into the shuttle and its cockpit. Amos and Hutch maintain covering fire then flee to the shuttle. Whereupon Hutch is wounded and collapses. Amos drags her inside while she maintains covering fire. Once in the airlock, Amos hits the controls to seal the airlock door, jumps to the floor and yells at Clarissa to takeoff.
Clarissa prepares to takeoff, waiting only for the bay doors to open, but Erich is unwilling to wait and fires the reactor and they take off at high speed. The Pinkwater men that had chased them are immediately outside the shuttle with no chance to escape and are incinerated by its engine.
The shuttle successfully takes off and gets into orbit whereupon Amos puts on a pair of mag boots and treats Hutch's wounds.[1]
