"It Reaches Out" is the eighth episode of the third season of The Expanse. Overall, it is the thirty-first episode. It aired on May 30, 2018.

Synopsis[]

An old friend taunts Holden with the answers he seeks; Naomi struggles to fit in; a mysterious low-level tech aboard the Thomas Prince enacts a terrifying plan.

Recap[]

"It Reaches Out" begins with an exhausted Holden, who has spent his time reeling from the appearance of Miller who appeared to Holden in what he surmises is a hallucination. After hearing news about Manéo's slingshot awakening the Ring Gate, Holden, who looks tired, goes the galley to get some coffee. While preparing his coffee, Holden sees Miller again who is ranting about old cop stories, saying one story about the Loca Griega is important. In the a blink of an eye, the Miller hallucination phases out and a real Monica is addressing Holden in the same spot Miller was. She is worried about her story and needs Holden to get over whatever is affecting him.

Soon, Holden retreats to the med bay where he runs multiple medical scans trying to figure out what is making him hallucinate. He runs a protomolecule scan on himself, worried he is infected. When Miller appears in the med bay, Holden is seen yelling at what appears to be a vacant room. Having caught Holden yelling at the empty med bay chair, a concerned Amos tells Holden he can confide in him anything without judgment. Holden tells Amos he will be the first person to know if something is wrong. Amos and Alex have a private conversation that happens to be monitored by Monica's team. Amos tells Alex that Holden has run a protomolecule scan on himself 35 times, each time coming back negative. It is shown during this time that Cohen, the camera guy, switches out a system component within a hatch on the Rocinante.

On the Seung Un, Melba wakes up with the dead Ren next to her. She cleans up the situation, stuffing Ren into a hatch, arms the bomb, arrives at the shuttle an hour late and trembling. While dining with dignitaries in the Thomas Prince galley, Anna notices Melba at a nearby table. Anna follows a tearing up Melba, calls to her, and asks whether she is in need of assistance. Melba says she is ok and walks away.

Later, on the Thomas Prince, Melba detonates the explosives on the Seung Un, destroying the ship. On the flotilla ships in the vicinity of the Ring Gate, crews receive a recorded transmission with video images of Holden declaring he destroyed the Seung Un in the name of the OPA and that only the Belt has sole legitimate claim to the Ring.

On the Behemoth, tensions are wild as Ashford, Drummer and Naomi analyze the situation. Naomi insists that Holden would never do such a thing while Ashford advises taking swift and decisive action before the crisis gets out of hand as the UN will certainly consider this an act of war by the entirety of the OPA. Attempts to reach the Rocinante fail. With the threat of UN retaliation against not only Rocinante but also against Behemoth, Drummer makes the final decision to launch torpedoes from the Behemoth at the Rocinante as a demonstration of disavowment. In the initial torpedo launch attempt, power on the Behemoth fluctuates wildly.

On the Rocinante, under attack, with no weapons or defense, Alex begins to maneuver the ship. Holden who uses Monica's video record to determine that his first Miller appearance also coincided with Manéo opening up the gate. Holden, who appears to be having a meltdown, then requests that he needs to be alone in the airlock during the crisis. Amos tries to stop Holden but, Holden asks for trust from Amos, who soon relents. Holden finally alone, anxiously awaits for Miller's reappearance. When Miller does, Holden prompts him to explain the rest of the Loca Griega story from sector 18. Miller recounts that the rookie cop pursuing gangsters rushed into a room and didn't check the "doors and corners" thus were killed like Manéo. Realizing the lesson of the story means they need to slow down before entering the Ring Gate, Holden rushes to the ops deck, and gives his plan to Alex. He instructs Alex to head quickly towards the Ring Gate but, make a major braking burn before passing through the gate. Amos asks where Holden got this information. Holden admits to him that Miller told him. Amos relays to Alex his support for the plan. The crewmembers along with Monica and her camera guy, all strain due to high-g and pass out on the approach towards the gate while the missile closes in on the Rocinante. After an extended delay, they awaken on the other side. They have passed through the gate and astoundingly are still alive; however, they are accompanied with an unexploded missile trailing them very close behind. The missile appears eerily to be positioned relatively frozen in space, not getting any closer.

xxy279yxx [18:20.492]:
xxy280yxx [18:22.929]: It's the thing you don't see coming. That's what it is.
xxy281yxx [18:26.759]:
xxy282yxx [18:29.936]: - What's with the hat?
xxy283yxx [18:32.112]:
xxy284yxx [18:34.245]: - Keeps the rain off my head.
xxy285yxx [18:36.291]:
xxy286yxx [18:38.162]: - I'm not infected. I didn't have a stroke. I'm running out of ideas here.
xxy287yxx [18:43.298]: - There's this--this rookie, down in Star Helix. Kid never learned to clear a room.
xxy288yxx [18:48.651]: I kept telling him. I said, "There's doors and corners, kid,
xxy289yxx [18:51.306]: "and if you don't clear the room,
xxy290yxx [18:52.524]: "if you don't come in slow,
xxy291yxx [18:56.136]: that room will eat you."
xxy292yxx [18:58.400]: - Why are you telling me this?
xxy293yxx [19:00.140]: - Ch-ch.
xxy294yxx [19:01.316]: [eerie music]
xxy295yxx [19:02.795]: I'm supposed to think about this.
xxy296yxx [19:04.319]:
xxy297yxx [19:06.669]: Ah, this could mean something.
xxy298yxx [19:08.845]:
xxy299yxx [19:11.064]: - Detective Miller crashed into Venus
xxy300yxx [19:13.676]: with Julie Mao. They died together.
xxy301yxx [19:16.156]: That's how it ended.
xxy302yxx [19:17.462]: - I don't want to talk about...Julie.
xxy303yxx [19:21.031]: - It happened to Miller too.
xxy304yxx [19:23.686]: You're dead!
xxy305yxx [19:24.643]: - I'm just an investigator now.
xxy306yxx [19:27.342]:
xxy307yxx [19:29.866]: I find things.
xxy308yxx [19:32.085]:
xxy309yxx [19:33.913]: - Okay.
xxy310yxx [19:35.306]: Okay, what are you trying to find?
xxy311yxx [19:38.483]:
xxy312yxx [19:40.137]: - Local Griega.
xxy313yxx [19:41.660]: They were running this unlicensed brothel down in Sector 18.
xxy314yxx [19:45.621]: Coriolis was so bad down there, it really made you sick.
xxy315yxx [19:48.014]: - I don't give a shit about your goddamn war stories until you tell me what any of it means.
xxy316yxx [19:51.931]: - The local Griega.
xxy317yxx [19:53.498]: They're running an unlicensed brothel down in Sector 18.
xxy318yxx [19:56.327]: Now, down there--
xxy319yxx [19:57.589]: - Fuck you! Fuck you!
xxy320yxx [19:59.939]: My blood is clean.
xxy321yxx [20:01.811]: You're not here, which at least explains the stupid fucking hat.
xxy322yxx [20:06.119]:
xxy323yxx [20:15.477]: That may have looked weird.
xxy324yxx [20:17.217]: - Hey, none of my business.
xxy325yxx [20:21.657]: Are you sick, Cap?
xxy326yxx [20:23.963]: - No.
xxy327yxx [20:27.402]: I don't think so.
xxy328yxx [20:30.405]: - Look, if there's anything you need to get off your chest, I'm not much help, but I also don't judge.
xxy329yxx [20:38.456]: - It's a great quality, you know.
xxy330yxx [20:40.632]: - Things have been in the red for a long time now.
xxy331yxx [20:43.418]: There's only so much a guy can take, especially with this cosmic squid thing jumping off Venus and flying across the system, turning into a ring that eats ships.
xxy332yxx [20:54.124]: So vent away.
xxy333yxx [20:56.082]: Break some shit if you have to. I don't care.
xxy334yxx [20:58.998]: Just...not the coffee maker again.
xxy335yxx [21:05.265]: - I'm all right, Amos.
xxy336yxx [21:09.705]: I mean I will be all right, and if I'm not, you'll be the first to know, okay?
xxy337yxx [21:19.497]: - Okay.
xxy338yxx [21:23.458]: [melancholy music]
xxy339yxx [21:26.461]:
xxy340yxx [21:59.058]: [whooshing]

Anna tries to speak to Melba[]

xxy341yxx [22:03.411]: - We've grown used to wonders in this century.
xxy342yxx [22:05.935]: It's hard to dazzle us anymore.
xxy343yxx [22:07.719]: But a watershed moment is upon our fragile species--
xxy344yxx [22:10.983]: a leap ahead, perhaps to the very face of God,
xxy345yxx [22:13.899]: and we mustn't meet it with our fears.
xxy346yxx [22:15.901]: We must open our hearts and our minds to greet it.
xxy347yxx [22:18.774]: And our wallets.
xxy348yxx [22:19.897]: Shh.
xxy349yxx [22:20.602]: Why don't you apply some of that coffee?
xxy350yxx [22:22.778]: - I do. I did.
xxy351yxx [22:24.823]: One coffee, one Bloody Mary.
xxy352yxx [22:27.652]: Keeps my ratio in balance.
xxy353yxx [22:29.698]: Balance is key to life.
xxy354yxx [22:31.830]: - You truly are not afraid at all?
xxy355yxx [22:33.397]: - What do we have to fear?
xxy356yxx [22:35.573]: That we'll finally get the answers to our most profound questions?
xxy357yxx [22:39.708]: - He is good, though. I mean, he's got that thing with the words.
xxy358yxx [22:43.886]: My family donates big to his mega-churches across Africa and Asia, and our business enjoys his sway over the flock.
xxy359yxx [22:51.807]: - Hmm.
xxy360yxx [22:53.504]: - His gift of free will, our free will, is a manifestation of God's will.
xxy361yxx [22:59.379]: Our capacity for compassion on the one hand, cruelty on the other...
xxy362yxx [23:03.558]: - Please excuse me.
xxy363yxx [23:04.863]: - Is still the greatest unsolved mystery, even more so than that Ring which has opened up to us.
xxy364yxx [23:09.389]: [eerie music]
xxy365yxx [23:12.392]:
xxy366yxx [23:14.133]: - Excuse me.
xxy367yxx [23:15.570]:
xxy368yxx [23:22.359]: Are you all right?
xxy369yxx [23:24.317]:
xxy370yxx [23:27.669]: Do you need something?
xxy371yxx [23:29.714]:
xxy372yxx [23:37.287]: - Thank you.
xxy373yxx [23:38.549]: No.
xxy374yxx [23:40.203]:
xxy375yxx [23:48.385]: [whooshing]

It kills The Investigator[]

xxy376yxx [23:54.478]: [desolate music]
xxy377yxx [23:57.481]:
xxy378yxx [23:59.701]: - Me and Naomi, yeah, what...
xxy379yxx [24:02.312]: we had was...special.
xxy380yxx [24:05.271]: I mean...
xxy381yxx [24:07.056]: I thought maybe that was love, but it was really just the beginning of a love story.
xxy382yxx [24:11.974]: - Okay, why don't you cut the bullshit, Holden?
xxy383yxx [24:14.716]:
xxy384yxx [24:17.632]: Tell me why you really called me here.
xxy385yxx [24:19.547]:
xxy386yxx [24:23.072]: - He was having a full-on conversation with himself.
xxy387yxx [24:27.076]: - Who doesn't talk to themselves, though, now and then?
xxy388yxx [24:30.558]: - Me.
xxy389yxx [24:32.037]: - All right. Most of us do, though.
xxy390yxx [24:33.952]: I mean, it's--it's, um-- it's how we air things out.
xxy391yxx [24:36.389]: - You spend half your time talking to a ship.
xxy392yxx [24:38.174]: Maybe you're not the right person to ask.
xxy393yxx [24:39.654]: - Hey, hold on there, okay?
xxy394yxx [24:41.307]: Look, he's just--he's just overloaded is all, all right?
xxy395yxx [24:44.093]: After everything he's been through,
xxy396yxx [24:45.660]: Naomi leaving the ship, things are just hitting him harder than he's letting on.
xxy397yxx [24:49.315]: Let's not get the straightjacket out just yet, okay?
xxy398yxx [24:51.840]:
xxy399yxx [25:01.980]: [suspenseful music]
xxy400yxx [25:05.201]:
xxy401yxx [25:33.882]: What are you not telling me?
xxy402yxx [25:36.449]: - I caught him with his arm in the auto-doc, so I read his--
xxy403yxx [25:40.914]: - What?
xxy404yxx [25:41.716]: You didn't.
xxy405yxx [25:42.847]: - Hell yeah, I did, in the interest of the ship.
xxy406yxx [25:46.198]: - You checked out his auto-doc logs?
xxy407yxx [25:49.375]: Amos, shame on you.
xxy408yxx [25:50.768]: That is a serious breach of trust, man.
xxy409yxx [25:52.378]: Come on.
xxy410yxx [25:53.641]: Jesus.
xxy411yxx [25:55.381]: So what did the logs say?
xxy412yxx [25:56.948]:
xxy413yxx [25:58.994]: - He ran a scan on himself for the protomolecule infection.
xxy414yxx [26:01.997]: Holy...
xxy415yxx [26:02.964]: 35 times.
xxy416yxx [26:05.000]: - Shit. Are you telling me that he's--
xxy417yxx [26:06.392]: - Negative.
xxy418yxx [26:07.524]: The tests always scan negative, but he keeps doing it over and over.
xxy419yxx [26:11.093]: What the hell is that about?
xxy420yxx [26:12.495]: You tell me.
xxy421yxx [26:13.399]: - Damned if I know.
xxy422yxx [26:14.879]: But we gotta do something, man.
xxy423yxx [26:16.228]: You remember XO, back on the "Cant"?
xxy424yxx [26:17.926]: Yeah.
xxy425yxx [26:18.310]: One day, he's singing sea shanties and planting daffodils.
xxy426yxx [26:21.059]: The next day, he's waving a six-gun around, trying to put a--
xxy427yxx [26:23.150]: - Shh! All right, calm down.
xxy428yxx [26:24.280]: - Sorry, man.
xxy429yxx [26:27.065]: - We just have to keep an eye on him, okay?
xxy430yxx [26:32.027]: - Do you believe the mind can manifest things?
xxy431yxx [26:35.770]: Hopes?
xxy432yxx [26:37.336]: Fears?
xxy433yxx [26:39.295]: - Of course.
xxy434yxx [26:40.252]: - No, I mean physically manifest.
xxy435yxx [26:43.865]: - If those hopes and fears are powerful enough,
xxy436yxx [26:47.085]: more so if they're the result of synchronicity.
xxy437yxx [26:52.003]: We were once flying over Khartoum--
xxy438yxx [26:53.788]: - W-what's that word? "Synchron"--
xxy439yxx [26:55.528]: - Coincidence... but not coincidence.
xxy440yxx [26:58.793]: [ominous music]
xxy441yxx [27:02.927]: - You have everything stored on that, right?
xxy442yxx [27:06.626]: - Yeah.
xxy443yxx [27:08.280]:
xxy444yxx [27:11.109]: - Show me the news report the moment the Belter kid went through the Ring, and bring up the timestamp.
xxy445yxx [27:18.334]: Stop there.
xxy446yxx [27:19.727]: - What are you fishing for?
xxy447yxx [27:21.816]: - You've been spying on us every second since you got on this ship. It's your job. I get it.
xxy448yxx [27:26.821]: Now I want to see your footage of me.
xxy449yxx [27:28.605]: [eerie music]
xxy450yxx [27:31.608]:
xxy451yxx [27:48.016]: - What is it?
xxy452yxx [27:50.801]: - It happened at the same time.
xxy453yxx [27:54.892]: - What did?
xxy454yxx [27:57.503]: - You need to go.
xxy455yxx [27:59.288]: - What? No, no, no, no.
xxy456yxx [28:00.811]: Your brain just exploded.
xxy457yxx [28:02.204]: I have brain matter all over me.
xxy458yxx [28:03.683]: You need to tell me what is going on
xxy459yxx [28:05.511]: right now.
xxy460yxx [28:07.035]: Holden. Holden!
xxy461yxx [28:09.602]:
xxy462yxx [28:12.823]: - Could be something.
xxy463yxx [28:15.086]: It'll eat you.
xxy464yxx [28:17.349]: I find things.
xxy465yxx [28:19.003]:
xxy466yxx [28:21.484]: - You were-- you were saying something?
xxy467yxx [28:23.921]: The--the Griegas in Sector 18?
xxy468yxx [28:26.750]: The rookie?
xxy469yxx [28:28.491]: - Hmm?
xxy470yxx [28:30.145]: Have we talked before?
xxy471yxx [28:31.886]:
xxy472yxx [28:33.409]: - Do--do you even know you're here?
xxy473yxx [28:35.628]: - Hmm?
xxy474yxx [28:36.978]: Yeah, sometimes.
xxy475yxx [28:39.719]: I, uh--
xxy476yxx [28:41.330]: When I exceed my boundary conditions, that's when they kill me.
xxy477yxx [28:45.813]: - Who--who are "they"?
xxy478yxx [28:48.424]: - Huh?
xxy479yxx [28:49.686]: [disquieting music]
xxy480yxx [28:50.905]: - Why--why me?
xxy481yxx [28:52.384]: Why am I special?
xxy482yxx [28:53.603]: - [grunts]
xxy483yxx [28:55.779]: 'Cause you have a ship.
xxy484yxx [28:57.259]: See, you're a tool that goes places.
xxy485yxx [28:58.913]: I'm a tool that... finds things.
xxy486yxx [29:01.611]: We're, uh... we're tools.
xxy487yxx [29:05.963]:
xxy488yxx [29:07.530]: - Tools?
xxy489yxx [29:08.923]:
xxy490yxx [29:11.664]: - Uh...
xxy491yxx [29:13.928]:

Melba follows through[]

xxy492yxx [29:23.589]: [suspenseful music]
xxy493yxx [29:26.592]:
xxy494yxx [29:42.957]: [explosion]
xxy495yxx [29:47.004]: [klaxon blaring] - We are detecting debris field
xxy496yxx [29:49.180]: approaching now.
xxy497yxx [29:50.660]: - What is it?
xxy498yxx [29:52.140]: - A UN ship just got blown to scrap.
xxy499yxx [29:54.925]: A science vessel,
xxy500yxx [29:56.492]: the "Seung Un."
xxy501yxx [29:57.797]: [suspenseful music]
xxy502yxx [29:59.234]: - That doesn't look like a reactor meltdown.
xxy503yxx [30:02.411]: And that there fo sure is not any missile.
xxy504yxx [30:05.544]:
xxy505yxx [30:07.111]: - Tan width pulse shifter is down.
xxy506yxx [30:09.244]: Electrical and power is down. Repeat, puls--

It reaches out 113 times a second, it reaches out[]

xxy507yxx [30:11.986]: - You showed up at the exact moment
xxy508yxx [30:13.944]: the Ring was activated.
xxy509yxx [30:15.859]: Is it using you to get to me?
xxy510yxx [30:17.643]: - Mm.
xxy511yxx [30:20.559]: It reaches out
xxy512yxx [30:23.954]: 113 times a second.
xxy513yxx [30:25.260]: It reaches out, but nothing answers,
xxy514yxx [30:27.262]: so it builds the investigator,
xxy515yxx [30:28.698]: and the investigator looks, but he does not find,
xxy516yxx [30:31.092]: so it kills the investigator.
xxy517yxx [30:32.354]: It kills the investigator over and over.
xxy518yxx [30:35.009]: And then it builds the investigator again
xxy519yxx [30:37.489]: and again,
xxy520yxx [30:38.926]: until...
xxy521yxx [30:40.144]: [somber music]
xxy522yxx [30:43.147]: Until it finds a door what wasn't there before.
xxy523yxx [30:45.802]:
xxy524yxx [30:47.891]: - What i-- what is it doing?
xxy525yxx [30:50.807]: - Hmm?
xxy526yxx [30:52.852]: So I'm at this, uh, unlicensed brothel, right?
xxy527yxx [30:56.378]: Griegas. Down in Sector 18.
xxy528yxx [30:59.033]: And this hothead rookie-- I keep telling him,
xxy529yxx [31:00.686]: you know, "Watch your doors and corners, pal.
xxy530yxx [31:03.167]: "You don't come rushing into a room
xxy531yxx [31:05.909]: with your dick hanging out."
xxy532yxx [31:07.258]: [banging at door] - Holden!
xxy533yxx [31:08.912]: Holden, we got a situation, ops deck.
xxy534yxx [31:10.522]: We need you right now.
xxy535yxx [31:11.246]: - Wait. Wait.
xxy536yxx [31:11.741]: Uh, just--just one second!
xxy537yxx [31:13.743]: I'll get rid of them.
xxy538yxx [31:15.049]: Holden?
xxy539yxx [31:15.484]: Stay with me.
xxy540yxx [31:16.615]: - We have a situation on the flight deck.
xxy541yxx [31:18.182]: Stay with me.
xxy542yxx [31:18.716]: You have to see this.
xxy543yxx [31:19.792]: Holden.
xxy544yxx [31:20.410]: [banging]
xxy545yxx [31:21.359]: Don't make me crowbar this door.
xxy546yxx [31:23.535]:
xxy547yxx [31:27.539]: - Fuck.

The flotilla addresses the new threat[]

xxy548yxx [31:28.366]: Alex, what's going on?
xxy549yxx [31:30.238]: - UN ship just went up.
xxy550yxx [31:33.023]: - Someone hit it?
xxy551yxx [31:35.069]: - Could've been a reactor meltdown.
xxy552yxx [31:36.374]: I don't know. I'm gonna get us a closer look.
xxy553yxx [31:39.029]: [suspenseful music]
xxy554yxx [31:42.685]: The hell?
xxy555yxx [31:44.730]: [disquieting music]
xxy556yxx [31:46.602]: Guys, something's going on with the "Roci."
xxy557yxx [31:48.473]: [console beeping negatively]
xxy558yxx [31:52.564]:
xxy559yxx [31:55.089]: What is this?
xxy560yxx [31:57.178]: - I'm James Holden, speaking on behalf of the Outer Planets Alliance.
xxy561yxx [32:02.139]: Earth and Mars believe the Ring is theirs to investigate, to claim, and are already plotting ways to control it.
xxy562yxx [32:09.581]: I'm here to declare for the OPA that Belters are the only legitimate benefactors of the Ring.
xxy563yxx [32:16.110]: Whatever it may ultimately prove to be, it belongs to the Belt,
xxy564yxx [32:20.766]: and to show you that we will not bargain nor back down from this claim,
xxy565yxx [32:25.641]: we've struck at the Inners' vessels, and we will strike again.
xxy566yxx [32:30.254]: - Jesus Christ. Grab continuous singles
xxy567yxx [32:32.430]: of everyone, and make sure we have
xxy568yxx [32:34.041]: all six "Roci" angles of that explosion,
xxy569yxx [32:35.607]: and, Amos, can you just keep this corridor clear?
xxy570yxx [32:39.307]: - What the fuck did you do?
xxy571yxx [32:41.222]: - That's not me.
xxy572yxx [32:42.701]: That's not me, Alex.
xxy573yxx [32:43.963]: - Well, it's coming from inside our ship!
xxy574yxx [32:46.314]: - Well, kill the fucking thing!
xxy575yxx [32:48.055]: - I can't! I'm locked out.
xxy576yxx [32:50.144]:
xxy577yxx [32:51.841]: - Did you do this?
xxy578yxx [32:54.626]: - Why would I?
xxy579yxx [32:56.106]: - Holden, you haven't been yourself lately.
xxy580yxx [32:58.848]: - Maybe you don't know what you did.
xxy581yxx [33:00.850]: Maybe you're not in control.
xxy582yxx [33:01.981]: - I know myself, and that is not me.
xxy583yxx [33:05.115]: - And we will strike again.
xxy584yxx [33:07.552]: - He wants them to fire on us.
xxy585yxx [33:09.380]: He's trying to start the next war.
xxy586yxx [33:11.165]: - They'll fire on him too.
xxy587yxx [33:12.644]: - Oh, you're assuming he cares about survival.
xxy588yxx [33:14.733]: - That was not Holden. It's some kind of trap.
xxy589yxx [33:17.171]: - Well, okay, who was it, then?
xxy590yxx [33:18.433]: - A c-composite, a generated SIM.
xxy591yxx [33:20.130]: I don't know.
xxy592yxx [33:21.392]: Take a closer look at the footage.
xxy593yxx [33:22.872]: - We na got time for that.
xxy594yxx [33:24.091]: Hail the "Roci," get Holden on comms, and tell him he has ten seconds to retract--
xxy595yxx [33:26.963]: - We have to fire on the "Rocinante."
xxy596yxx [33:28.356]: We have to do it now.
xxy597yxx [33:29.234]: - What?
xxy598yxx [33:29.618]: - It is the only way they'll know that the OPA disavows James Holden.
xxy599yxx [33:33.056]: Otherwise, they will kill this ship along with his.
xxy600yxx [33:35.885]: [klaxon blares]
xxy601yxx [33:36.886]: - The UN is scanning us.
xxy602yxx [33:38.105]: Target lock?
xxy603yxx [33:38.807]: Negative, but they have target-locked the "Rocinante."
xxy604yxx [33:41.238]: - And we'll be next.
xxy605yxx [33:42.805]: Captain.
xxy606yxx [33:44.633]: Camina!
xxy607yxx [33:45.764]: If you want to save the "Behemoth," you have to prove to them that we are not with him!
xxy608yxx [33:50.204]: - Where's my open channel?
xxy609yxx [33:51.683]: - The "Roci's" not responding. Just let me try--
xxy610yxx [33:53.511]: - No more time for try.
xxy611yxx [33:54.860]: Arm the missile system and get me a channel to the UNN fleet commander.
xxy612yxx [33:59.517]: - Someone is trying to play you. Don't fall into it.
xxy613yxx [34:03.042]: - Remove her from the command deck.
xxy614yxx [34:04.435]: Kom wit milowda.
xxy615yxx [34:05.141]: Drummer, listen to me!
xxy616yxx [34:06.350]: You know Holden isn't capable of what we just saw!
xxy617yxx [34:10.702]: To sasa im!
xxy618yxx [34:14.271]: To sasa im!
xxy619yxx [34:15.968]: - UN's target-locked us.
xxy620yxx [34:17.405]: All I got is drive control.
xxy621yxx [34:18.710]: Still no comms?
xxy622yxx [34:19.501]: Nothing.
xxy623yxx [34:20.234]: - What about PDCs?
xxy624yxx [34:21.365]: Any defense systems?
xxy625yxx [34:23.106]: - Snake eyes.
xxy626yxx [34:24.934]: [console beeping]
xxy627yxx [34:26.240]: - Ah, Christ! Now the "Behemoth's" target-locked us!
xxy628yxx [34:29.156]: - The "Behemoth's" an OPA ship. They gotta fire at us.
xxy629yxx [34:31.723]: [rumbling]
xxy630yxx [34:34.857]: - What are you doing?
xxy631yxx [34:36.380]: You're just gonna draw their fire.
xxy632yxx [34:37.555]: You can't outrun a missile.
xxy633yxx [34:38.861]: - Yeah, but we don't gotta sit here and be their target practice.
xxy634yxx [34:42.256]: [suspenseful music]
xxy635yxx [34:45.259]: - Holden! What the fuck?
xxy636yxx [34:47.783]: - Amos!
xxy637yxx [34:49.393]: Get me a goddamn cannon working!
xxy638yxx [34:51.961]:
xxy639yxx [34:53.267]: - What the fuck is wrong with you?
xxy640yxx [34:54.572]: We gotta push! Get back into a couch.
xxy641yxx [34:56.357]: - We're not gonna outrun their fire.
xxy642yxx [34:57.662]: I can get a cannon!
xxy643yxx [34:58.821]: You can't!
xxy644yxx [34:59.795]: Somebody crippled this ship. It was all a setup.
xxy645yxx [35:02.580]: - Holden, you are not--
xxy646yxx [35:03.439]: - The only hope we have is for me to--
xxy647yxx [35:05.975]: Just give me one minute alone.
xxy648yxx [35:07.411]: For what?
xxy649yxx [35:07.958]: I don't have time to explain!
xxy650yxx [35:09.544]: We don't have a minute!
xxy651yxx [35:11.058]: Let me go!
xxy652yxx [35:12.111]:
xxy653yxx [35:14.679]: - God damn it, Captain, I don't want to scrape you off that wall.
xxy654yxx [35:17.595]: Open up, or I'll have Alex override.
xxy655yxx [35:19.771]: - Amos, all we've been through-- how many times have I asked you to trust me?
xxy656yxx [35:24.863]:
xxy657yxx [35:27.214]: - None.
xxy658yxx [35:28.302]: - I'm asking you now.
xxy659yxx [35:29.868]:
xxy660yxx [35:33.742]: One minute.
xxy661yxx [35:34.558]: Alone.
xxy662yxx [35:35.439]:
xxy663yxx [35:41.184]: - Camina, please! Don't f--
xxy664yxx [35:43.491]: - The Belt triggered the Ring, which you say was unintentional.
xxy665yxx [35:47.103]: Now an OPA operative claims responsibility for the attack on our ship, and you profess no knowledge of--
xxy666yxx [35:53.588]: - We are prepared to fire on the "Rocinante."
xxy667yxx [35:55.067]: Let us take care of our own.
xxy668yxx [35:57.026]: - You have one minute.
xxy669yxx [35:58.984]: [dramatic music]
xxy670yxx [36:01.509]: He doesn't believe us.
xxy671yxx [36:03.206]: - Doesn't matter. He gave us one minute.
xxy672yxx [36:05.948]: - Missile bay doors on the "Thomas Prince" have just opened.
xxy673yxx [36:08.646]: - And one minute is all we're gonna get.
xxy674yxx [36:10.953]: - Missile ready.
xxy675yxx [36:12.171]:
xxy676yxx [36:24.401]: - Fire!
xxy677yxx [36:26.360]: What's happening?
xxy678yxx [36:27.272]: - Grid overload.
xxy679yxx [36:28.231]: Need to divert more juice to the weapon system.
xxy680yxx [36:31.016]: Stand by.
xxy681yxx [36:32.279]: - One hell of a warship.

Don't go into a room too fast, or the room eats you[]

xxy682yxx [36:34.890]: - Doors and corners, right?
xxy683yxx [36:36.500]: Doors and corners.
xxy684yxx [36:38.197]: Doors and corners, right? Come on. Come on.
xxy685yxx [36:41.026]: - Hey, down there. I got us slinking away from the flotilla for now,
xxy686yxx [36:45.204]: but you sure as hell better be strapped in when I put the pedal to the floor.
xxy687yxx [36:48.077]:
xxy688yxx [36:57.347]: - Doors and corners, right?
xxy689yxx [36:58.392]: Doors and corners.
xxy690yxx [36:59.697]: Come on.
xxy691yxx [37:01.046]:
xxy692yxx [37:02.918]: Come on, Miller! Give me something.
xxy693yxx [37:04.963]:
xxy694yxx [37:08.402]: You want a ride? You got it.
xxy695yxx [37:10.360]: But I can't give you one if I no longer have a ship.
xxy696yxx [37:13.450]:
xxy697yxx [37:15.713]: - Go into a room too fast, kid...
xxy698yxx [37:17.933]:
xxy699yxx [37:19.630]: The room eats you.
xxy700yxx [37:23.112]:
xxy701yxx [37:25.419]: [tranquil choral note]
xxy702yxx [37:28.247]: [dramatic music]
xxy703yxx [37:31.250]:
xxy704yxx [37:32.513]: - Inbound missile!
xxy705yxx [37:33.862]: [klaxon blaring]
xxy706yxx [37:35.429]: Strap in!
xxy707yxx [37:37.082]: - [groans]
xxy708yxx [37:38.780]: - [breathing heavily]
xxy709yxx [37:40.477]: Shit, shit, shit.
xxy710yxx [37:42.218]:
xxy711yxx [37:45.874]: - Alex needs to slow the ship down, or we're all dead.
xxy712yxx [37:48.877]: - Slow down?
xxy713yxx [37:50.400]:
xxy714yxx [37:52.315]: - Alex! You need to change course and go inside the Ring right now!
xxy715yxx [37:58.452]: - No fucking way.
xxy716yxx [38:00.105]: - That is an order!
xxy717yxx [38:01.324]: - Amos, we need a goddamn PDC!
xxy718yxx [38:03.108]: - We have no PDCs. You need to go for the Ring.
xxy719yxx [38:06.677]: Slow the "Roci" down. Flip and burn her hard as you can without that missile catching us.
xxy720yxx [38:12.770]: - We are dead if I slow down!
xxy721yxx [38:14.598]: - It's a risk we gotta take.
xxy722yxx [38:17.035]: Massive decel right before the Ring.
xxy723yxx [38:21.475]: Try not to stroke us out.
xxy724yxx [38:23.694]: - How do you know all this about the Ring?
xxy725yxx [38:26.697]: - Because Miller told me.
xxy726yxx [38:28.525]:
xxy727yxx [38:33.748]: I can't prove a goddamn thing, but this is our only way out.
xxy728yxx [38:39.188]:
xxy729yxx [38:41.582]: - Alex! Do what the Cap said.
xxy730yxx [38:45.237]:
xxy731yxx [38:48.502]: - This is gonna be nasty.
xxy732yxx [38:50.242]:
xxy733yxx [38:54.072]: Hang on!
xxy734yxx [38:55.465]: [groaning]
xxy735yxx [38:57.511]:
xxy736yxx [39:01.950]: - We are tracking movement on the "Rocinante."
xxy737yxx [39:05.127]: - Pashang.
xxy738yxx [39:06.607]: - They're going for the Ring.
xxy739yxx [39:08.478]:
xxy740yxx [39:12.047]: - What in God's name are they doing?
xxy741yxx [39:14.963]: - They're dead.
xxy742yxx [39:16.530]:
xxy743yxx [39:29.456]: [all groaning]
xxy744yxx [39:33.111]:
xxy745yxx [39:56.221]: [eerie music]
xxy746yxx [39:59.224]:
xxy747yxx [40:09.626]: - [gasping]
xxy748yxx [40:19.593]:
xxy749yxx [40:26.600]: [tense music]
xxy750yxx [40:29.603]:

Notes[]

  • A draft title for this episode was "The Investigator". The draft titles are believed to have been leaked ahead of official release. Weeks later, after the first episodes of the season were broadcast, the final official title for this episode was revealed, "It Reaches Out". For fans familiar with the original novels, both titles telegraphed the same thing everyone was awaiting, the return of Miller as The Investigator.
  • Fans of the show particularly fans of Thomas Jane's portrayal of Miller were all hoping for the return of the character. This makes episodes 7 and 8 pivotal in the series.
