Colonel Janus was an officer of the United Nations Marine Corps (UNMC).

Biography[]

Throughout the series[]

Colonel Janus, while attending a UN Security Council meeting, indicates he thinks that Eros was a test of a new Martian fuel drive. Although Chrisjen Avasarala scoffs at that theory, the council decides to send a team to Venus to investigate.[1]

Janus was placed in command of the Arboghast, a science ship assigned to investigate the extra-solar phenomenon on Venus. In orbit above the Eros impact site the team begins to collect data, while be shadowed by a Martian Congressional Republic Navy ship, the Shandian.[2]

The teams launches probes into the Erosian impact crater on the planet, but all the probes' signals disappear before they reach the surface. Janus agrees to drop the Arboghast lower to the surface of Venus before releasing their last two probes.[3]

He died with the rest of the crew when the ship was completely disaggregated by the protomolecule following its descent to the planet's lower atmosphere above the Eros crater.[4]
