I've never met anyone else in my life who cared more about other people's welfare, and less about their feelings, but at least he'll make sure everyone is well fed before he tells them all the many things they did wrong.
— Melissa Supitayaporn
in describing her husband, Santichai

Melissa Supitayaporn and her husband, Santichai, are members of the Church of Humanity Ascendant, a secular humanist organization. She and her husband are responsible for relief work on Ganymede.

Appearances

she is taller and heavier than her tiny husband, Santichai, but had the same shapeless cloud of thinning white hair. had bright blue eyes. members of her church wear loose orange robes.

History

Background

Melissa and her husband are an octogenarian couple who have lived ten years on Ganymede and are the organizers of the relief efforts.

Their relief work is undoubtedly connected to their church. The Church of Humanity Ascendant, a religion that eschewed supernaturalism in all forms, and whose theology boiled down to "Humans can be better than they are, so let’s do that."

The OPA, Fred Johnson's moderate branch, coordinated with the couple for them to receive the delivery of "twenty thousand kilos of protein". Santichai complains OPA appear to have only sent twelve thousand kilos aboard the Weeping Somnambulist, the recovered ship that Holden's crew brought to infiltrate the blockade of the moon.[1]

Notes

  • The Television version of character apparently changes the affiliation with the church, the spelling of their name,[2] and replaces their ten years on Ganymede with instead a life of hauling relief goods as owner/operators of Weeping Somnambulist.[3]
