The Nieuwestad system is one of the planetary systems connected to the Ring network.

Jacobin-Black Combined Capital, a company specializing in industrial construction and microclimate engineering, receiceved a contract to conduct geological survey on Nieuwestad, the main habitable planet in the system.[1]

Kit Kamal, his wife and son travelled from Mars to the system on the Preiss in order to begin survey work with Jacobin-Black Combined Capital.[2] Later, Alex Kamal joined them in the system just before the Ring network was completely shutdown by James Holden.[3]
