Probes are used in space exploration for obtain sensor information. They are utilised in military and civilian roles.

Probes, especially military ones, include a drive, transmitters, guidance, sensors and various electronic and EW equipment.
High-atmosphere probes are used for small supply drops and surveying new planets.[citation needed]

Whilst investigating the Crater on Venus the Arboghast launched probes onto the planet surface. All probes were destroyed entering the atmosphere, however one probe was given extra shielding off another and was able to broadcast for a few seconds on the crater surface revealing Protomolecule structures[1].
The MCRN Xuesen launched probes into the slow zone. The first of these was stopped by the speed limit which gave the ship the information as to the maximum speed permitted whilst a second probe attempted to pass by the exterior of the Sol gate upon which it vanished[2].
