Sakai was the chief engineer on Tycho station and a member of the OPA. In reality, she is secretly working on behalf of Marco Inaros and the Free Navy, being a leading contributor to the success of the Tycho station Coup and the death of Fred Johnson.
Biography[]
Throughout the series[]
As Fred Johnson's chief engineer for Tycho station, Sakai took the lead in repairing the Rocinante after its return from the mission to Ilus IV, having sustained major damages by the use of its adjacent railgun.[1]
Sakai used her close association with Fred to gather information, manipulate station engineering systems, and provide disinformation until she reveals herself as a member of the Free Navy and kills Fred by shooting him in the back as she coordinates the theft of the last Protomolecule sample from Johnson's quarters.[2] While the sample is secured and the Zmeya escapes the station, Sakai is apprehended by James Holden and Monica Stuart and subsequently arrested. Even though she is interrogated by Holden and "Bull" for useful information, Sakai refuses to comply.
Personality[]
Sakai is intelligent, evident by her position as Tycho Chief Engineer, and filled with hatred for the Inners (Earthers and Martians). This would ultimately lead her to abandon the OPA under Fred Johnson, even personally killing Johnson and dismissing his contributions to the Belt, in favor of joining Marco Inaros's Free Navy under along with like-minded individuals of the station's OPA.
Trivia[]
