Scipio Africanus was reported to have destroyed the belter ship Xinglong after it launched a net of rocks against the Destroyer. This even contributed heavily to unrest among the inhabitants of the Belt.
As a light vessel, the Scipio Africanus acts as a boarding craft and lightly armed ship's gig. Presumably, it is not designed for extended independent operation. It has one airlock on the ventral surface, 2 PDCs on the shoulders, and 2 missile launchers in the bow.
On Ceres, the protests over the destruction of the Xinglong by the Martian Scipio Africanus included the savage impalement of Martian Enrique Dos Santos using a prospector's spike. Miller sent a letter to his widow.
- The ship is named after the Roman general whom defeated Hannibal and during the Second Punic War (218 Before Common Era – 201 BCE). The term 'punic' refers to Carthage, an historical city and region in North Africa.
- The above photo contains a map of the city of Carthage and its environs in relation to the Roman Empire, the core of which lies in Italy. For more information check out the PBS documentary Secrets of the Dead: Hannibal in the Alps
