Ganymede Incident[edit | edit source]

Main article: Ganymede incident (Books)

Strickland, with the help of Umea posing as Nicola Mulko, abducts Mei Meng from her kindergarten class. They then take take her to a secret lab with other children who also suffer Myers-Skelton Premature Immunosenescence, such as Sandro Ventisiete.

This kidnapping occurs suspiciously before the protomolecule hybrid attack on Ganymede.

The identity of Carlos Merrian is revealed to Prax in response to an appeal/plea for financial assistance in seeking Mei. A peer named Dr. Moynahan provided the lead, which in turn revealed the connection to Protogen.

Prax and Amos finally track down Strickland when they infiltrate a secret base on Io. As they approach, they hear Strickland arguing with Umea. Strickland wishes to surrender and use the surviving children as bargaining chips, while Umea tries to talk him out of it. Upon being confronted by Amos and Prax, Strickland shoots Umea and claims he and the other scientists were being held against their will. Amos isn't convinced by this, since he is already familiar with the induced sociopathy of Protagen scientists. Strickland argues that none of the surviving children, including Mei, would be alive without him, as they were scheduled to be turned into second-generation Hybrids. Prax determines that the reason Mei was spared was because Strickland saw the broadcast he and Holden sent out, so he wanted to keep her alive as a bargaining chip. Prax ultimately decides he doesn't care about revenge now that he is reunited with his daughter, but Amos blows the Strickland's head off with his shotgun.

Notes[edit | edit source]

  • Dr. Strickland did not get a prename in the Novels. In the TV series, his full name is Dr. Lawrence Strickland.
