Umea was Dr. Lawrence Strickland's assistant and a high-ranking member of Project Caliban.

History[]

Background[]

Umea was born in the Sol system. After reaching the necessary age, she studied Genetics and became a Genetic Research assistant on Ganymede, one of Jupiter's moons.

After or shortly prior to the Eros incident, Umea was enlisted by Jules-Pierre Mao's corporation Protogen to help develop Project Caliban, a project which sought the creation of enhanced superhuman soldiers by programming the protomolecule to manipulate the biology of humans. The project was ultimately successful and resulted in the creation of several super-soldiers, which the Martian Congressional Republic found efficient enough to invest in the project.

Throughout the series[]

Umea accompanied Doctor Strickland and Mei to the project's hidden laboratory on Ganymede. Having arrived there, Mei was placed on a vertical bed to be prepared for experiments.[1]

Later, she and her staff were invaded by Holden and his crew along with Prax. When Prax spotted Mei's backpack, he was enraged and took a shot at one of the staff members, resulting in a gunfight which Umea was able to escape. However, after some fumbling with a grenade, neglecting to re-lock the door behind Umea's party, the Roci crew was able to pursue them and found Umea lying in a pool of blood, having been attacked by a human-protomolecule hybrid. She requested the help of Holden's crew, the latter of which refused to aid her. Defiant even when faced with death, she did not reveal any major information regarding the project, affirming only that "there is more where that came from".[2]
