- This article is about a word in the Belter Creole language.
welwala

Noun[]
welwala
- (pejorative) a person obsessed with the gravity well of the inner planets' culture; a "planet-lover"
- traitor (from a Belter's view)
Etymology[]
wel "gravity well" (English) + wala "person-of-the" (Hindi)
Welwala = person of the [Gravity] well
Notes[]
In Dulcinea, Miller translates the word to Havelock as "traitor to my people". Though this is not the literal meaning, it may carry that connotation, as many Belters have little love for the inners who oppress them.
